St Andrews to the Cairn Gorm

If you are into Mountain climbing, hiking, windsurfing (in the summer) and Snowboarding/skiing in the winter then the Carin Gorm region rocks!

I made my way to Avimore to see what the place was like and the prospects for a long weekend here looks promising especially if you are into activities.

Below: The mountain where all the action happens (and this is a small spec of it in the scheme of things). It may look tame in this picture but believe me, Honey struggled to get to the base station.

Speaking to one of the locals - apparently this year the snow season lasted until early May... not bad for the die hard skier.

Stayed at the local Youth Hostel which had the smell of an old mountaineering hut. And it was filled with fit looking hikers of all ages.

I think the best part of it was the giant gas stove which cooked me a pasta dish in the evening and eggs in the morning! Hmm..

Getting up to the base station. Unfortunately it was cold and miserable at the time so I did not bother going up. At close to 20 quid for the privilege I figured I would get plenty of free opportunities in Scotland to see walls of mist!

At the base of the mountain it was quite sunny and the windsurfing school had a few students zipping up and down the lake.
